COVID-19 School Update from Marcus Freke

Greetings to you all,

On Monday afternoon the Prime Minister announced the nation’s move to Alert Level 2 at 11.59 pm, Wednesday 13th of May.  However, it is important to be aware that Endeavour school will continue to operate under Alert Level 3 for Thursday 14th May and Friday 15th May, (as announced, this is required of all schools).  This means children cannot come to school on Thursday or Friday unless they were already registered as attending under Level 3 guidelines.

We are aware many of you will be required back at work under Alert Level 2 and will require care for your children.  Under Alert Level 2 bubbles no longer exist so it is possible to approach relatives, friends, and neighbors to look after your children for the last two days of Alert Level 3.  It is essential teachers and support staff have the time to prepare the school for operations under Alert Level 2 and this will not be possible with large numbers of students on site.  If you have no other options please register with the school by Tuesday 12/5, 4PM.  Please email Meg (meg.campbell@endeavour.school.nz).

Alert Level 2 is NOT BUSINESS AS USUAL. Endeavour School will be implementing some strict protocols required by the Ministry of Health and Ministry of Education.  These are:

  • enabling good hygiene practices – this means students will be using hand sanitiser coming in and going out of Learning Communities (every time).  Hand washing will be required as well. Children must also use the appropriate cough and sneeze etiquette.  Certain equipment will regularly be sanitised.

  • ensuring people with COVID-19 symptoms stay away from school – this means children who are unwell in any way must be kept home.  Children who display any symptoms will be isolated and must be picked up immediately.

  • maintaining physical distancing where practicable - in schools at Alert Level 2, this means children, young people, and staff maintaining a physical distance so that they are not breathing on or touching each other (there is no minimum distance requirement for schools at Alert Level 2).  We will be arranging the furniture in the learning communities to create as much space as possible for the children.

  • keeping track of people that enter our school – this will be done through our attendance register, timetable, and visitor register. Parents should not come on to the Endeavour School site, children must walk from the ‘Kiss n Drop’ to their learning community by themselves.  Teachers will be available to support this.  Parents/Caregivers must wait at the front of the school to collect students after school.  Please do not visit the office. (Sourced from Ministry of Education)

Under Alert Level 2 parents are still able to self-isolate their children if they deem it necessary.  You may consider this if your child or someone in contact with your child is immune-compromised or at risk.  Please complete the survey to let us know if you are planning on keeping your child at home under Level 2 Alert conditions.

  • School will be operating as usual 9AM to 3PM – children need to bring their lunch and water bottles (online school lunch orders will NOT be operating for the first 2 weeks)

  • Before & After school care will be operating (they will advise of their safe operating procedures separately).

  • Gym and Music lessons are on hold until Term 3

  • A version of online learning will be available for those students who are self-isolating under Level 2

  • There will be designated pick up zones for each learning community in the afternoons.  This process is being finalised and we will advise you of the process for pick up later this week.

  • We are waiting for advice from most sports organisations to see what competitions will look like and if they are going ahead.

We have all given up a lot to get to Alert Level 2 and it is critical that we all observe the operating procedures so we can get to Alert Level 1 as soon as possible.  Please talk to your children and make sure they understand Alert Level 2 operating rules.  If you have questions relating to school operations please email the office and we will answer them for you.

Thank you for your support.
